Aberdeen Foyer is a successful, local charitable organisation working to prevent and alleviate youth homelessness and unemployment in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. The Foyer provides supported accommodation to former homeless and at risk young people aged 16-25 and a range of learning, training and employment support as well as community health services.
Martin R Nelson works and exhibits at Cowden Studio, Drumlithie, south of Stonehaven. After graduating in 2008 with a Masters in Fine Art, from Robert Gordon University Gray’s School of Art the artist set about transforming a group of 19th century farm steadings into a working studio and gallery which was completed in 2011.
By using the language of printmaking as the vehicle to convey his ideas, Nelson has been able to explore and suggest factors of time, movement and space. This in conjunction with the vibrant colours of the late 1960’s psychedelic movement has guided him in finding new and inspiring avenues in his art practice be it sculpture or printmaking.
Martin R Nelson said, “Much of my work stems out of a basic understanding of both mathematics and geometry, coupled with a curiosity to see something that is not necessarily obvious to the viewer or indeed a mathematician.
Stuart Cochrane, Managing Director Park Brown International commented “this was a great opportunity for our firm to continue our support of the Foyer charity and also to provide a platform for local artist Martin Nelson’s work. We look forward to a successful exhibition both for the Foyer charity and Martin”.
